COLOMBIA INDEPENDENCE

Colombia’s Independence Day: July 20, 1810:
On July 20, 1810, Colombian patriots stirred the population of Bogotá into street protests against Spanish rule. The Viceroy, under pressure, was forced to agree to allow for a limited independence which later became permanent. Today, July 20 is celebrated in Colombia as Independence Day.

Legacy of the July 20 Conspiracy:

Bogotá, like Quito and Caracas, formed a local ruling council which supposedly would rule until such time as Ferdinand VII was restored to power. In reality, it was the sort of measure that cannot be undone, and as such was the first official step on Colombia's path to freedom which would culminate in 1819 with the Battle of Boyacá and Simón Bolívar's triumphant entry into Bogotá.
Viceroy Amar y Borbón was allowed to sit on the council for a while before being arrested. Even his wife was arrested, mostly to appease the wives of Creole leaders who detested her.
Many of the patriots involved in the conspiracy, such as Carbonell, Camacho and Torres, went on to become important leaders of Colombia in the next few years.
Although Bogotá had followed Cartagena and other cities in rebellion against Spain, they did not unite. The next few years would be marked by such civil strife between independent regions and cities that the era would become known as the "Patria Boba" which roughly translates as "Idiot Nation" or "Foolish Fatherland." It wasn't until Colombians began fighting the Spanish instead of one another that New Granada would continue on its path to freedom.
Colombians are very patriotic and enjoy celebrating their Independence Day with feasts, traditional food, parades and parties.

Student´s Day

In Colombia, on June 8th and 9th marks the day the student dropped, day of the revolutionary student or student day throughout the country.

The celebration commemorates the murder of several students from the National University who protested against acts of corruption and for guarantees and freedoms for higher education in Colombia.

On June 8th, 1954 during the dictatorship of Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, commemorated 25 years of the events in 1929, attended by students from some universities. In the afternoon of that same day, in the territories of the National University, was killed by the police the medical student Uriel Gutierrez. The fact deeply touched the student community  and for this reason students decided to march to the presidential palace the next day, on June 9th. This demonstration was interrupted by the Colombia battalion returning from the Korean War who opened fire on the demonstration producing more than a dozen dead.

This is the story to commemorate those students who died. Nowaday as teachers we try to do both, to commemorate and have a diffrent day with some activities for students.

Fulgencistas are going to have this commemoration on june 18th. We hope you enjoy all activities we have for you.

Happy father´s Day

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and fatherhood. Our country celebrate it on the second Sunday of June.
Students do not wait this date to say to your father "I love you Dad" but try to do this day a special one for him.

Happy day to those Fulgencistas fathers!´

World Cup

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is the 20th FIFA World Cup, an international men's football tournament that is taking place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014. It is the second time that Brazil has hosted the competition, the last one being in 1950. Brazil was elected unchallenged as host nation in 2007 after the international football federation, FIFA, decreed that the tournament would be staged in South America for the first time since 1978 in Argentina, and the fifth time overall.
The national teams of 31 countries advanced through qualification competitions that began in June 2011 to participate with the host nation Brazil in the final tournament. A total of 64 matches are to be played in 12 cities across Brazil in either new or redeveloped stadiums, with the tournament beginning with a group stage. For the first time at a World Cup Finals, the matches will use goal-line technology.
With the host country, all world champion teams since the first World Cup in 1930 (Argentina, England, France, Germany,[nb 2] Italy,Spain and Uruguay) have qualified for this competition. Spain is the defending champion, having defeated the Netherlands 1–0 in the2010 World Cup final to win its first World title. The previous four World Cups staged in South America were all won by South American teams.

Enjoy watching all the soccer games and live the goal party students.
